Nothing Real Can Be Lost
[Of Special Interest to Children]
Kevin and Keith were both very fond of pets. They had saved their money to buy a chameleon. How excited they were when they were told that they each could have one for their very own! They could hardly wait to fix up a wooden box to keep their pets in and to share the fun of playing with them.
They named their new pets, Petey and Twisty. Twisty seemed the more active of the two, which is why he was given that name. The pets were put in a wooden box with a screened-in top and a lock, so they couldn't get out.
The next day some friends with three small children came to visit, and Kevin and Keith were delighted to show them the new pets. During the excitement of the day, the children neglected to lock the box, and Twisty got out and could not be found. Chameleons change their colors so rapidly, depending upon the spot they are on, that it is not easy to detect them, even when they are in view. How disturbed the boys were, for it seemed almost impossible ever to find Twisty again!
