PROVED, UNPROVED

Walls:
cement, fieldstone, brick,
mud, mosaic—all
crumble under history's
relentless millstone. All
Hadrian's efforts, Ch'in Huang-ti's,
Maginot's: obsolete
saviors now. Isolation
prophesies defeat.

Walls:
blind words, distrust, fear,
ire, ignorance—all
crumble in compassion's
simplest action. All
efforts to uplift, to
praise, to understand
each other: build inviolate
the brotherhood of man.
