A College Student Writes

Return Home!

How often we hear the hope-filled words, "I can hardly wait to get home"! All mankind long for the resting comfort, safety, and happiness which to them mean home. But even the soothing human sense of home gives but a hint of the boundless bliss of man's real, spiritual abiding place.

Mrs. Eddy speaks of this abiding place in Science and Health. There she writes, "Pilgrim on earth, thy home is heaven" (p. 254). What grander hope could mankind envision than to dwell in heaven! And Christian Science reveals that man's present and eternal home is the realm of absolute spiritual perfection. Every healing which takes place in Christian Science, whether it be one of sin, sickness, or discord of any kind, proves man's home to be heaven, the reign of harmony, for a Christian Science healing is simply the disappearance of false belief in the present spiritual understanding of real being, which alone is harmonious.

The master Christian, Christ Jesus, knew that heaven is not a place to be lost or gained, but that it is the perpetual habitation of man. He said to the Pharisees, "The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you" (Luke 17:20,21). This statement shows Jesus' consciousness of harmonious spiritual creation. It was his consistent be-holding of the present perfection of man which made Jesus' healing work so spontaneous.
