With a spirit of humility I express my sincere gratitude for the privilege of being a student of Christian Science. How blessed we are to have the key to existence so beautifully explicated in the works of our Leader, Mrs. Eddy!

I was brought up in a Christian Science environment, and I had healings and experienced protection as a child. At one time, I was healed of a severe case of blood poisoning, and at another, I was protected when I fell ten feet from a diving board to the cement. On the day after this fall, there was not so much as a bruise on my body.

After my second year of college, I became enveloped in the throes of an intense mental rebellion against my religion, which I regarded as a form of escapism; against my family and surroundings, which I envisioned as smothering; and against my very belief in God, whom I could not understand to be omnipotent. Several years of skepticism and doubt of a basic cause for anything resulted in unhappiness, frustration, and feelings of utter futility. I wanted to be of service to mankind, but I could not decipher a direction in which to move or a worthy purpose for motivation.
