The Lending Library

The well-stocked Sunday School lending library gives the pupils an excellent opportunity to broaden their knowledge of Christian Science, the Christian Science movement, and the life of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. The Bible, the writings of Mrs. Eddy, and the books published or sold by The Christian Science Publishing Society may be used in the library.

Some Sunday Schools have also placed the recordings of the hymns in the library. Pupils like to borrow these records, and many instances of healing result from the playing of them in the home. A mother telephoned to the superintendent of a branch church Sunday School to say that late one night her little girl was healed of an acutely painful disorder when she listened to a recording of Mrs. Eddy's "Communion Hymn" (Poems, p. 75). The mother wanted the superintendent to know that the hymns were blessing the family. The little girl had borrowed the record because they had sung the hymn in Sunday School, and she wanted to learn it.

Many churches and societies are finding that it is well to provide space for the lending library in the main Sunday School room. When the library has a prominent and interesting display, the activity is greater. Teaches may encourage the pupils to borrow the books, and many teachers give home assignments from these books either in connection with the lessons that are being discussed in the class or as additional reading.
