In 1919 a testimony of mine...
In 1919 a testimony of mine appeared in the Sentinel. Now I wish to express my gratitude to God for the healing of hemorrhoids. I suffered from these for many years. Prayerful help in Christian Science from a practitioner brought relief but not a complete healing.
Then about five years ago I was led to take note of these words of Mrs. Eddy found on page 127 of "Miscellaneous Writings": "One thing I have greatly desired, and again earnestly request, namely, that Christian Scientists, here and elsewhere, pray daily for themselves; not verbally, nor on bended knee, but mentally, meekly, and importunately."
I began to pray in this way to see what it was that was binding me to this condition. One definition of the word "importunate" is "troublesomely urgent." I was led to see that if I did not receive an immediate answer to my desire, I should keep on asking.
