The recurring Lesson-Sermon...

The recurring Lesson-Sermon, from the Christian Science Quarterly, entitled "Substance" always reminds me of my introduction to Christian Science and my first healing. This healing established such a firm conviction of God's loving care that my faith in His healing power has never wavered since then. Mrs. Eddy tells us (Science and Health, p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need."

Four specialists had agreed that nothing more could be done for me and had given me seven or eight more weeks to live. My ailments were many, including pernicious anemia, tuberculosis, pleurisy, and diabetes. It was declared that any one of these could cause death during the specified period. I did not have to give up materia medica; it gave me up permanently.

I had been reared in a religious atmosphere; and to me and my family the Bible was a daily guide; so I now turned completely and earnestly to God for guidance. Previously my husband had contracted tuberculosis from a war injury, and we had been sent to the West Coast for his health. Five years later he passed on, leaving me to care for and to support a six-year-old son, and I had no one to turn to for help. The doctors had suggested that I have the boy adopted; but I could not do that since I felt it was a privilege to rear him, and I was sure God would help me to fulfill this mission.
