Mrs. Eddy's statement in the...
Mrs. Eddy's statement in the textbook, Science and Health (p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need," has been repeatedly borne out during my eight years' experience in Christian Science. Having a background in psychiatry and being well steeped in materia medica, I had been a voluble and ardent critic of what I believed Christian Science to be.
However, the time came when the medical world failed to relieve me of a blood infection, which manifested itself in a painful way on my limbs and over much of my body and caused me much fear, and my family doctor and two specialists admitted that they had done everything they could. Then I asked the advice of a Christian Scientist. He referred me to a practitioner, and the condition was healed through prayer within two weeks.
My curiosity about what had happened prompted me to explore the Bible and the writings of Mrs. Eddy. To my surprise I discovered that Christian Science is not at all what I had thought it to be. Instead, its teachings seemed right and logical to me. It answered questions that other religions, psychiatry, and philosophy had failed to answer for me. Subsequently, many physical ailments, problems of supply, employment, adjustment to new positions, and inharmonious personal relationships have yielded to the right application of Christian Science.
