Activities for the Armed Services

"The big event of the month," writes a Chaplain at an Air Force base, "was the Christian Science lecture in early December. As usual, church members drove out from town to supply transportation for the service personnel. Nineteen attended."

One airman who had been reared in Christian Science came to this lecture, although he had been unable to attend church at the base. The airman was so inspired by what he heard that, to use his words, he "really began to understand Christian Science for the first time." After the lecture he undertook a regular, systematic study of the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings in order to learn more of the truth and thus qualify for church membership.

Christian Science Activities for the Armed Services arranges for lectures at military installations where the service personnel find it difficult or impossible, because of the distance to be traveled, to attend lectures in civilian communities. Also, occasional lectures are held in military installations near branch churches where there are enough Christian Scientists to arrange for them and support them. Such lectures have been held in North Carolina, California, Alaska, Hawaii, Japan, Korea, Germany, Turkey, and other places.
