WORDS OF CURRENT INTEREST

[The words in this issue are related to the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly designated to be read in Christian Science churches on May 26, 1963.]

None of them that trust in Him Shall Be Desolate (Ps. 34:22)

Literally, "shall be held guilty" or "shall suffer punishment." It may he observed also that the verb which is here rendered "trust" means more exactly "to seek refuge." As a consequence, Smith translates, "None who take refuge in him will he held guilty."

I AM THAT I AM (Ex. 3:14) The words in the original Hebrew are 'chych 'asher 'chych. The usual sense of the word 'chych is "I will he," and some commentators see significance in the fact that in verse 12 we find the words, "Certainly I will he ['chych] with thee." Bearing this in mind, Brown, Driver, and Briggs, the noted lexicographers, take the meaning in verse 14 to be, "I shall be the one who will be [with thee]."
