"Concerning the work of my hands"

When considering the nature of existence, thought often goes to these two short verses from Isaiah (45:11,12): "Thus saith the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me. I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded."

To understand the nature of existence, then, we must look to Spirit as the source of all true knowledge of the nature of being. The understanding of man and the universe that Spirit imparts reveals God as primal cause, the universal creator, the divine Principle of all that really exists. This God is not a new God, not another God. He is the one God, whom Christian Science reveals to be the producer and controller of all true existence.

A tendency of the unillumined human mind is to hold to its own vague, unrealistic concepts of God even though these concepts fail to satisfy reason and leave much to be desired. Religious beliefs about the Supreme Being are often considered sacrosanct, regardless of how inadequate they are to meet the need for spiritual enlightenment. Yet there is nothing we need more than this enlightenment.
