Beyond Matter
It is becoming more and more apparent to thinkers that mankind must penetrate beyond matter in order to find the real meaning of the universe and of all existence. The natural scientist reduces matter to energy, but that energy is still material and does not hold the answers to the questions of real life, substance, and law as they were demonstrated by Christ Jesus. The eternal and infinite cannot be found in the temporal and finite; the moral and spiritual are not located in the nonmoral and material.
Searchers for the truth must eventually conclude that only the Science that is divine can penetrate beyond matter, reveal the spiritual nature of God's creation, and demonstrate the laws that govern it. This is the Science the Master was proving—Christian Science, the Science of Spirit, not matter.
Jesus penetrated beyond matter to the universe of Spirit, which he called heaven. To do this and to show others how to follow him was the purpose of his life. This he implied when he first appeared as the Saviour of mankind and said to the Galileans (Matt. 4: 17), "Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."
