At a time when I was suffering very great physical distress and mental depression, a friend called my attention to Christian Science. A stomach disorder, various nonfunctioning glands, and circulation disturbances were some of the conditions which had been medically diagnosed. If I lifted even the lightest object, a spinal disorder, which the doctor had said was incurable, caused me great pain. According to general human opinion, my demise was not far off.

Statements made by the friend made it clear to me that Christian Science is a living religion through which we gain an understanding of true being. Up to this time I knew nothing of the existence of the Christian Science movement.

On my way by train to stay at a health resort I interrupted my journey at a large city to visit a practitioner, for I wanted to learn more of Christian Science. The visit to the health resort had been planned as a last measure for the purpose of alleviating my various difficulties. The practitioner's explanations filled my consciousness with such flood tides of Truth that it was as though a great stream of water were being poured into a land that had lain dry and parched for years.
