WORDS OF CURRENT INTEREST

[The words in this issue are related to the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly designated to be read in Christian Science churches on October 27, 1963.]

Inhabitant of Zion (Isa. 12:6) The word here rendered "inhabitant" is strictly a feminine term, and Skinner observes that it is here used in view of the fact that Jerusalem—for which Zion is virtually a synonym—is often personified as a women.

He will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering (Isa. 25:7)

Commentators gather from Isaiah 24:23 that the mountain in question is "mount Zion," on which the Hebrew temple stood. The Revised Standard Version suggests, "He will destroy on this mountain the covering." It may be added that the term "vail" used in this same verse in the King James Version is simply an archaic spelling of the modern "veil."
