"He that dwelleth in the secret...

"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most Hight shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty" (Ps. 91:1). Since this statement was explained to me over forty years ago when I was a young girl in a Christian Science Sunday School. I have proved many times that it is true. I can never express sufficient gratitude in words for the wonderful teaching I received in Sunday School; it has been a sure foundation throughout the years. God has indeed guided me along the way and has set my feet upon the rock of Christ, Truth.

I should like to relate how God directed me, every step of the way, to my present position. Many years ago I was led to take a course in elocution to improve my cultural background. After many years of study, I gained a diploma.

During this time I had never thought of teaching; but, within a few weeks, through no advertising, I was asked to teach several children. Feeling this was God's will, and believing that one should use the talents he possesses, I agreed, and almost immediately the number of pupils began to increase rapidly. I continued in this private teaching for four years; then the way opened for me to have college training, which I took in spite of much discouragement being voiced regarding my age.

This was an intensive course, but I was greatly helped and sustained by the many truths already established in consciousness. I realized that man, as the child of God, already has the Godlike quality of completeness. He is now at the standpoint of perfection. These words from the Bible were a great encouragement to me (II Tim. 2:15): "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

With joy, I graduated and obtained a teaching post in a school. I continued to turn to God as I went about my daily work, and I was offered a headship in a comparatively short time. The result of this experience has blessed not only me but also my family and has enabled me to be of service to others in various ways.

During this progress the way opened beautifully and unexpectedly for me to have class instruction. For this wonderful feast and for the yearly association meeting, I am indeed grateful.

I should also like to tell of a healing which took place about sixteen years ago. While staying away from home I was suddenly taken very ill, so much so that the friends with whom I was staying became very fearful. The illness appeared to be a contagious one; so I gave them permission to call their doctor. At the same time I asked them to wire home for Christian Science help from a practitioner.

The doctor expressed great concern, for he felt the difficulty was diphtheria. He said he would know definitely the following day. The truths contained in the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings were a great comfort and a tower of strength to me. I held to the thought that in God "we live, and move, and have our being" (Acts 17:28), knowing that man dwells "in the secret place of the most High" where nothing inharmonious can enter.

Also helpful was this statement from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 468): "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." When the doctor called again, I had no trace of the difficulty mentioned. There was, however, a heart condition. After three weeks I was able to return home. To comply with school regulations I asked a local doctor to visit me, but I took no medication at all during the whole experience.

There appeared to be many lessons to learn while the healing was taking place; but through the work of the practitioner, along with my own study and the love expressed to me by friends and members of my branch church, I went forward and was back in school in about six weeks. The medical verdict, however, had been that since my heart was in a very bad condition, I could be laid up for at least six months and that I should not be able to take long walks again. Within a matter of weeks I was rambling over the moors, rejoicing every step of the way.

Christian Science has healed me of a great amount of fear, particularly the fear of meeting people.

My father, who is advanced in years, enjoys excellent health and has been healed of the smoking habit and infected toes. A few years ago another healing enabled him to dispense with a surgical belt.

For membership in The Mother Church and active membership in a branch church, where I have had the privilege of being First Reader, I am indeed very grateful. And I am grateful to God for Christ Jesus, our way-shower, and for our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy. I pray daily that I may let my "light so shine before men that they may see [my] good works, and glorify [my] Father which is in heaven" (Matt. 5:16).—(Miss) Nellie Copley, Sowerby Bridge, Yorkshire, England.
