When I was six months old,...
When I was six months old, I contracted spinal meningitis and was given up by leading specialists, who said I had only five days to live.
My father's sister was a Christian Scientist, and she asked if she could stay in the room with me for a while. When she went out, I was able to move for the first time. The doctors had told my mother that if I lived, I would be paralyzed, and they were amazed at my healing, which was complete there and then except for the fact that one eye remained crossed. Prayerful work was continued, and in about a year the eye was normal.
My mother became an active Christian Scientist, and I was brought up in Science, attending a Christian Science Sunday School from the age of two until I was twenty, when I joined a branch church.
