Church Dedications
High Point Enterprise
High Point, North Carolina (Society).
Members of Christian Science Society, High Point, will dedicate their new church building at the 11 a.m. service Sunday. The new building is located at 206 Woodrow Avenue.
Members of the society noted that the history of the church goes back to 1928 when it became a branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. A group of local Christian Scientists started the society in that year.
By 1950 the group was ready to think about building a church. Land was purchased at the corner of N. Hamilton Street and Woodrow Avenue and in 1956 the building was started. Work was completed in 1957, with the first service being held Jan. 13, 1957.
All debts incurred in the construction of the church were paid off in January, 1962, thereby making the clear for an official dedication. No Christian Science churches are dedicated until they are free of debt, officials of the church said.—High Point Enterprise (March 2, 1963).
