Our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, tells us on page 131 of the Christian Science textbook, "The central fact of the Bible is the superiority of spiritual over physical power." This central fact, realized in my own experience these last thirty-six years through the daily study of the Bible, of the textbook, and of other writings of Mrs. Eddy, has enabled me to see the cross of sorrow become a crown of rejoicing and has given me a freedom from the physical ills which plagued me through my childhood.

Several years ago, the Thursday evening before Easter, as I was doing some deep-fat frying in my preparations for dinner, the fat boiled to the top of the pan. Because I did not want it to boil over and catch fire, I lifted it off the stove quickly. It did not catch fire, but it did spill over onto one of my feet. I had on a pair of open sandals, and the foot received the full impact of the boiling fat.

As I worked at getting it off the floor, I also prayed as we are taught in Christian Science, remembering Mrs. Eddy's counsel to "banish the belief that you can possibly entertain a single intruding pain which cannot be ruled out by the might of Mind, and in this way you can prevent the development of pain in the body" (Science and Health, p. 391). I realized that a material body has no more sensation than a floor. I continued preparing dinner with no discomfort whatever.
