Having been reared in a good...

Having been reared in a good Christian home with high ideals, I loved the orthodox church and was active in Sunday School and choir work. Then Christian Science was presented to me by a relative with whom I came to live over forty years ago. My first impression of a Christian Science church service, which I have never forgotten, was one of quietness, peace, and harmony. But I did not become a student of Christian Science at that time.

About two years later I had periodic sick spells, and a doctor was of the opinion that a poisonous condition was affecting my heart. An operation to locate the scat of the trouble was unsuccessful. Then I was reminded of a statement by Mary Baker Eddy in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," which reads (p. 306), "Undisturbed amid the jarring testimony of the material senses, Science, still enthroned, is unfolding to mortals the immutable, harmonious, divine Principle,—is unfolding Life and the universe, ever present and eternal."

I decided really to study Christian Science and to let its truths unfold in my consciousness. From that day on, the symptoms of the physical discord became less frightening. One day a Christian Science practitioner, who was on a trip to Alaska, where I was living at that time, agreed to help me through prayer. After one treatment I was healed.
