Whenever I hear someone...
Whenever I hear someone voice concern because a pupil in a Christian Science Sunday School apparently is not yet using Science as much as he might in his daily affairs, I am reminded of my own experience and feel impelled to give a word of reassurance. I know how quickly a seemingly dormant sense of Truth can become active and fruitful when a special need arises.
From early childhood I had the advantage of attending a Christian Science Sunday School. There I learned the basic facts of being: that God is Love, divine Spirit, and that man is His image and likeness. I learned that matter is not real, though it appears to be so to the five so-called physical senses. And that man therefore is not material, but always spiritual because he is the reflection of Spirit, God.
For some reason, however, I did not really bring these truths to bear upon my own experience, and it was not until I was in my late teens that I awakened to the fact that Christian Science is by its very nature a practical religion, and no student is worthy of the name of Christian Scientist unless he practices what he knows of it. This realization came about through an illuminating experience while I was on a trip with my younger brother.
