My first healing in Christian Science...
My first healing in Christian Science came when I was but three years old. I fell out of a tree and landed on a large rusty nail which pierced one of my feet, causing severe bleeding. Although my mother was a new student of Science, she immediately declared that "blood never gave life and can never take it away." These words are from a sentence in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy which reads (p. 376), "The pallid invalid, whom you declare to be wasting away with consumption of the blood, should be told that blood never gave life and can never take it away,—that Life is Spirit, and that there is more life and immortality in one good motive and act, than in all the blood which ever flowed through mortal veins and simulated a corporeal sense of life." Immediately the wound closed, and the foot was completely healed within a few hours.
Our family has experienced protection from so-called contagious diseases, and through the years there have been many instances of overcoming lack. I have experienced painless childbirth and have been healed of pneumonia, laryngitis, and severe burns.
While preparing dinner one evening, my face and arms were drenched with hot cooking oil. The thought came to me that man, who is in reality a spiritual idea in divine Mind, is never in nor of matter and that God is the only cause and creator; so there can be no effect except that which comes from God, good. The pain ceased immediately; and within a very short time new skin was in evidence, and there were never any scars.
