In the Christian Science textbook,...
In the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, we read these words (p. 369): "In proportion as matter loses to human sense all entity as man, in that proportion does man become its master."
A few years ago I had an experience which made me prove the truth of the above words. A small lump appeared on the back of one of my legs. I did not do anything about it at first; but when it began to get larger and to bleed, I became fearful and asked for the help of a practitioner. She lovingly led me along the way to the realization that the condition had neither power nor presence, that God is the only power governing man, and that I must understand these truths. The fear abated, but for quite a while the condition did not improve.
One day the practitioner asked if I should like to change practitioners, and so I spoke to another one about the difficulty. Her first words to me were, "A spiritual idea cannot bleed." This truth impressed me so much that I knew I had reached the turning point in the healing. I went along doing my own prayerful work and occasionally receiving help from the practitioner to whom I first went.
