I came into Christian Science...
I came into Christian Science when, with the prayerful help of a practitioner, I was healed of a painful hemorrhoid condition. The healing gave me a desire to know just how it had taken place.
I began to study very earnestly, and as I studied I was completely regenerated. Little by little, old habits and tastes were dropped for new ones. My children had many healings of so-called children's diseases, and I had many more physical healings myself.
Then one day I found I had the desire to join the church, but I knew that before I could do so I had to give up the smoking habit. It came to me that since God is all power, the smoking habit cannot have any power. I studied hard and slipped back many times, but I was finally healed. Two lines from Mrs. Eddy's poem "'Feed My Sheep'" (Poems, p. 14) were helpful in overcoming the temptation to smoke. They are:
