Activities for the Armed Services

Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, encourages her followers to expect progress as a natural result of seeking an understanding of God and His kingdom. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 128) she writes: "A knowledge of the Science of being develops the latent abilities and possibilities of man. It extends the atmosphere of thought giving mortals access to broader and higher realms."

Everywhere and under all conditions people seek advancement. They want to improve themselves and their standing in their communities, businesses, and professions. Christian Scientists in the Armed Forces are not exceptions to this general rule, and the reports of Christian Science Chaplains, Ministers, and Representatives show how the truth helps these people to demonstrate progress in their various activities.

One Minister writes of a sergeant who did not learn of Christian Science until he had spent much time in hospitals, had exhausted the skill of Army doctors, and was not improved. Upon learning that the docters were preparing to have him discharged from the Army, he decided to look to other means for healing and investigated several, but they did not relieve his chronic headaches. Finally an Army friend introduced him to Christian Science, and with the help of a Christian Science Minister for the Armed Services he was healed.
