RADIO PROGRAM No. 6 - Is More Leisure Time the Answer?
HOST: More people have more leisure time today than ever before. Whole towns of retired folk have grown up; and many other people have leisure time too. It's something many want, and the working week is growing steadily shorter.
But there's another side to the subject. The New York Times told of a man who quit his job after 44 years. Three years of retirement, and this is what he said: "When I was 45, the thought of moving to Florida and sitting in the sun was a beautiful dream.... Ten years later, it still seemed like a good idea, but I had begun to wonder whether I'd really enjoy loafing all day long. When I reached 65, I was almost sure I'd be bored to death, but I was willing to try. Now I'd work for $10 a week if I could get a job."
Now a comment like that raises some questions. What about leisure time? Does it bring more happiness?
