Christian Science has been the...
Christian Science has been the source of many blessings and healings for my family and me. One healing took place when I was serving as Second Reader in the branch church of which I am a member.
One Thursday afternoon, after I had just received disturbing news concerning a loved one whom I was visiting, I attempted to light the oven of the gas stove in her home. My thoughts were somewhat confused, and I carelessly lit the match a few moments after the gas was turned on rather than immediately. An explosion followed, and I was thrown backwards. The wool dress which I was wearing was singed, though it did not catch fire, and my arms, face, and neck were severely burned.
The thought of "quickening" that had been brought out in the Lesson-Sermon from the Quarterly that week came to me, and I realized that I must arouse myself from a state of confused thinking to a positive awareness of God. I then began declaring aloud "the scientific statement of being," found on page 468 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, as I somewhat blindly made my way to the telephone to call a Christian Science practitioner. The statement tells us: "Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual." The practitioner reminded me of the three Hebrews who came out of the furnace unchanged, unsinged, and with not even the smell of smoke on them. She assured me that she would give me Christian Science treatment and that I could go on my way to my own home rejoicing.
