When we were very young, my sister and I were sick much of the time. During one of my illnesses three doctors, including a specialist, were unable to diagnose the difficulty. A beloved aunt recommended Christian Science to my distraught mother, who asked for the help of a consecrated Christian Science practitioner, and I was instantaneously healed during the practitioner's first visit to our home. Our family has found Science to be a reliable physician since that time, some thirty years ago

While serving with the United States Air Force in the Second World War, I gained a new and wonderful sense of God's ever-presence and protection. I read from Mrs. Eddy's writings on every flight while over hostile territory; and although three members of the crew were slightly wounded and we were once given up as lost after sustaining severe damage by ground fire, the entire crew returned home after the war, safe and well.

While bicycling alone in Europe after the war, I became seriously ill. Severe pain forced me to dismount and crouch on the ground in the valley into which I had just descended. Having experienced discomfort for several days, I was filled with fear, and I felt terribly alone.
