Accepting the Wedding Invitation

[Of Special Interest to Children]

Cousin Sarah was being married, and she had asked little Krista to be her flower girl. When the invitation came, Krista's mother started to refuse it because Krista seemed to have a problem. It had two names: shyness and a bad habit. Whenever Krista was with anyone she did not already know, or when she was in a large group of people, she would hang her head and bite her fingernails. She didn't look up and smile when people spoke to her, and sometimes she tried to hide behind her mother.

But her mother knew that Christian Science has a solution for every problem, and she decided that now was the time for them to find it.

She looked up in the Bible, in the twenty-second chapter of Matthew, the story, or parable, in which Jesus told of a king who prepared a wedding for his son and invited certain guests. They made excuses and gave reasons why they could not come. And so the king sent his servants to find others who were ready to accept the opportunity he offered.
