Stand upon the Mount

A Christian Science Reading Room is dedicated to the ministry of presenting the Christ, Truth, to those who are searching for a demonstrable understanding of God, as well as serving those who are already enjoying the provable teachings of Christian Science.

The office of the librarian is an important one. Executive boards should select for this office one who through experience is well equipped spiritually to carry on its healing, enlightening mission. The success of the activity depends in large measure upon the zeal and the spiritual attitude and the altitude of thought of the librarian. In speaking of Jesus' admonition to preach the gospel, our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes (Retrospection and Introspection, p. 88): "The Lord's command means this, that we should adopt the spirit of the Saviour's ministry, and abide in such a spiritual attitude as will draw men unto us."

Indeed, the Reading Room should exemplify the spirit of love and law denoted in the title "Christian Science Reading Room" given to all Reading Rooms by our beloved Leader (see Nota Bene in The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 236). Of those important words "Christian" and "Science," Mrs. Eddy writes (No and Yes, p. 10): "The two largest words in the vocabulary of thought are 'Christian' and 'Science." The former is the highest style of man; the latter reveals and interprets God and man; it aggregates, amplifies, unfolds, and expresses the All-God." She continues: "The life of Christ is the predicate and postulate of all that I teach, and there is but one standard statement, one rule, and one Principle for all scientific truth."
