I have been privileged to know no religion other than Christian Science since my infancy, and my gratitude for its teachings and their practicability is boundless.

One physical healing which stands out took place before the birth of our fifth child. To comply with the law, I engaged a doctor, who informed me that I was anemic and should take pills. He believed that these pills were necessary to build up a reserve for the impending birth and to safeguard the baby's health as well as my own. However, I did not take the pills, but asked a practitioner to do prayerful work for me.

I pondered the word "reserve" and realized that in Science there is no need for a supply or reserve to be set aside in anticipation of a future need that might not otherwise be met. God, divine Love, is ever supplying His beloved children with all good. I prayed very diligently to cast fear out of my thinking and to know that my spiritual understanding and desire to rely on Truth alone would meet the human need and satisfy the requirements of the physician, who felt responsible for my well-being.
