Early in 1960 the desire for class instruction in Christian Science came to me, but this step seemed financially impossible because my house was in need of repairs. The argument that presented itself was that the repairs should be the first consideration and that class instruction could wait until a more convenient time.

Recognizing this as a subtle attempt of mortal mind to prevent my spiritual growth, I decided to put God first. I sent in my application to a teacher and was accepted for instruction. A period of earnest study of Science followed. I saw that the desire to know more of God indicated the presence of a spiritual idea, born of God, which contained within itself everything necessary to complete God's purpose for man. I saw too that my need was not primarily for money, but for a clear understanding of God as the infinite source of true, spiritual supply.

Some words of our Leader on page 494 of Science and Health took on new meaning. They are, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." Here is a promise and also a demand. It unfolded to me that our needs are met not when we passively wait for divine Love to do the work but when we actively express Love in daily living. Each day I thanked God for my blessings, endeavored to serve Him better, and recalled with gratitude the many evidences of His loving provision in time of need. Inspiration was gained from a Bible verse (Ps. 62:5), "My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him."
