Our Solemn Promises
"True trust is based on the wisdom...the presence ...the power of the one Mind"
At a period when times were hard and the financial strain was great on many, a struggling young farmer asked a friend for a loan of twenty-eight dollars, which he said would tide him over a rough spot and so maintain his credit. The friend had great respect for the young man and gladly loaned him the money, assuring him that he could take his time in payment and that there would be no interest on the loan. After expressing his thanks the young farmer took pencil and paper, saying, "Now I want to make a promise,"' and he made out the following note: "I promise God and I promise you to pay this note two months from today."
