For several years after beginning...
For several years after beginning the study of Christian Science I was greatly restricted in my activity because of heart trouble. However, I did not do anything about it until I visited my home city and felt led to visit a Christian Science practitioner and ask her for treatment. She invited me to read from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy while she gave me a treatment.
I opened the book at page 187 and read this passage, which was quite new to me: "The valves of the heart, opening and closing for the passage of the blood, obey the mandate of mortal mind as directly as does the hand, admittedly moved by the will. Anatomy allows the mental cause of the latter action, but not of the former."
I awakened as if from a dream, for I realized then that it was not the heart which had to be watched, but mortal mind. I expressed surprise that my eyes had fallen on this very paragraph when I opened the book. The practitioner said she was not surprised because in her long experience she had seen so many wonderful instances of God's guidance.
