I have had many wonderful...
I have had many wonderful blessings through my study and application of the teachings of Christian Science. I was healed of agnosticism after reading the chapter on Prayer in the textbook, "Science and Health with Rev to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. During the first few weeks of almost constant reading of this book, along with the other writings of Mrs. Eddy and the biographies of her, my longstanding belief that God was unknowable was quickly changed to an absolute conviction that He could be understood and that the meaning of man's existence could be explained.
As I started attending church services and listening to the many testimonies of healing given at the Wednesday evening meetings, changes came about quickly in my physical status. Nervous indigestion and fear of eating certain foods disappeared. "Weak arches and leg muscles became strong, and all supports I had worn were discarded. Nightmares, from which I would wake in distress, ceased. My character improved rapidly. Smoking and social drinking dropped away. All desire for these stimulants simply vanished. About six months after I began this study, I felt that I had truly been born anew.
During this time I had gladly thrown away all the drugs and remedies which I had been using, with the exception of one particular medication with which I was somewhat reluctant to part. I had a skin disease which had been pronounced incurable; but with the frequent use of this ointment, it was kept in check. Thinking I was being obedient to the requirements of Christian Science, however, I discarded the ointment and just ignored the condition. It began spreading rapidly; and although it was not very painful, it was unattractive, and I began to be uncomfortably aware of the questioning glances of my friends and associates.
