Some nine years ago, due to an accumulation of mortal beliefs and fears and to discordant family relationships, I was having severe headaches, sleepless nights, and nervous convulsions followed by complete exhaustion. I had little or no appetite and had lost much weight. I had to spend some time in bed and for many months could not even drive the family car. At this point I called on a Christian Science practitioner for treatment through prayer. Within a few months I was able to go to work full time, for which I was indeed very grateful.

Even though the condition was greatly improved and I had learned a lot from the experience, there were many fears and mortal beliefs remaining in my consciousness. Also, the discordant conditions in our home were unchanged; if anything, matters grew worse.

I did not doubt for an instant that there is only one God, one Mind, one Truth, and I knew He could and would heal me completely. I know now that it was the love of God that carried me through the next few years. I had to be ready to take a radical stand for Truth against all the discord in my experience. We read in Hebrews (12:6), "Whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth." There was much in my thinking that needed to be purified and spiritualized, many undesirable traits of character needed to be uncovered, and many other errors needed to be rooted out to make room for the good which God had in store for me.
