Arming for Disarmament

There is everlasting peace in God's universe. Since God is All-in-all, weapons of material warfare and the fear of them exist only in the false belief that matter, or mortal mind, governs man. We demonstrate the spiritual facts of God's allness and of peace among God's children through scientific prayer.

Christian Science teaches that each individual can work for wise material disarmament through prayer. To do this each of us must desire moral and spiritual armament, including all that it implies. On page 1 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes, "Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds."

What does true disarmament involve? It includes love for our fellowmen with no exceptions. It includes seeing each of our fellowmen as an idea of the perfect Father-Mother God. It includes a longing to give up our own hatreds, prejudices, our selfishness, our intolerance, to lay down whatever may be present in consciousness which would in any way hurt our neighbor or which would not stand inspection by God, the supreme judge of the universe.
