Distribution of Literature at Ports

Those who are engaged in the distribution of Christian Science literature see abundant evidence of its helpfulness. One aspect of this activity which is familiar especially to Christian Scientists residing in the vicinity of ports is the free distribution of used periodicals to the crews of ships visiting the ports.

The distribution of used literature has been carried on in the harbor at the Port of New York for more than fifty years. This activity has been made possible through the loving cooperation of individuals and the voluntary contributions by the local branches of The Mother Church. The literature is arranged in bundles and wrapped in orange-color paper, and these packages are taken to the ships while they are in port.

A card bearing an Asian postmark read: "Sir, I have been helped by reading your literature; it's fine and would like it to go to my wife at the above address." A man wrote, "Christian Science has given me an understanding which has helped me through many a dark hour," and he requested literature in a Scandinavian language.
