WORDS OF CURRENT INTEREST
[The words in this issue are related to the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly designated to be read in Christian Science churches on December 9, 1962.]
I will work, and who shall let it? (Isa. 43:13)
It is evident that in this verse the English verb "let" is not used in its modern meaning of "allow, permit," but rather in its archaic sense of "hinder," for the corresponding Hebrew word means "cause to return, bring back" and so "reverse, revoke or hinder." Kent suggests, "When I work, who can reverse it?"; and Moffatt has, "What I do none can reverse."
