When a neighbor presented...
When a neighbor presented Christian Science to me, I very rudely told her that it was nonsense and that I would have nothing to do with it. Leaving "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy with me, she said she would call for it later. That she did not take offense at my unkind manner so impressed me that she was hardly out of the house before I had Science and Health in my hand. Through curiosity I opened it and I read on page 1, "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love." This was a promise. "That all things are possible to God" meant that I could be healed.
I had suffered since childhood from a highly nervous condition which was gradually growing worse, often causing painful headaches. I had suffered much from this condition and was using opiates in an effort to ease the pain.
