A College Student Writes

Assignment: College Campus

The purpose of a Christian Science college organization is to bless—to bless each member, to bless the college community, and to bless all mankind. The consistent utilization of the teachings of Christian Science enables the college student to be friendly and helpful to others. As the student learns to express more love, patience, joy, thoughtfulness, and poise, he finds rewarding opportunities for presenting Christian Science to others.

Each member of a college organization should consistently contribute to the healing activity of this organization. By conscientious metaphysical work, faithful attendance at meetings, joyful acceptance of committee appointments, and willing financial support, the member can continually add to his usefulness in helping the organization to fulfill its purpose.

An alert student is quick to detect those arguments which, if accepted, would prevent his joining or helpfully supporting his college organization. Suggestions such as lack of time, conflicting interests, or counterattractions are seen to be without divine support. They should be rejected from thought replaced with the genuine desire to give time and effort to bring to the whole college community an increased sense of the omnipresence of God, good. The desire to serve unselfishly and with humanility and dignity replaces the temptation to waste time in seeking popularity and exerting personal influence.
