Christian Science heals mental...

Christian Science heals mental illness. I know, because it healed me. Eight years ago, after years of public schoolteaching, I retired and my husband and I moved to a ranch. Here I became so overcome by loneliness, discontent, and discouragement that I tried to destroy myself. My mental state grew steadily worse; and my husband first employed a companion to stay with me, then for my safety put me in a private sanitarium.

During this period I refused to eat and grew very thin. Though we had relied on Christian Science treatment up to this point, my husband became so alarmed at my condition that he consented to medical treatment for me. However, it did not help me in any way.

I was then placed in a state mental institution, and Christian Science help alone was sought and given. A dedicated practitioner did prayerful work for me daily, in spite of the fact that there was no visible improvement. Then, almost a year from the onset of this difficulty, and under the continued help of the practitioner, the mists of error cleared before the sunlight of Truth. It was like standing on holy ground. I came to feel the possibility of obeying Mary Baker Eddy's instruction on page 393 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." She writes in this textbook, "Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good."
