An Inseparable Relationship

Whatever possesses a continuing source is maintained by that source, and this is true of man, whose source is divine Mind, the one creator. According to Christian Science, man is not properly defined by corporeal sense, for to this sense he appears to be a fleshly mortal, independent of a source, and relying upon matter for his energies and his life. But spiritual sense, or real sensibility, defines man as an incorporeal, individual identity, inseparable from his divine source and entirely dependent upon God for his all.

Mary Baker Eddy discovered this inseparable relationship and showed her followers how to get rid of the obstruction that claims to place itself between man and his Maker. This has brought health and other benefits to thousands of adherents of Christian Science; and the blessings continue to flow.

Mrs. Eddy uses the allegorical Adam to explain obstructive corporeal sense. She says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 338), "Divide the name Adam into two syllables, and it reads, a dam, or obstruction." She goes on to explain, "Here a dam is not a mere play upon words; it stands for obstruction, error, even the supposed separation of man from God, and the obstacle which the serpent, sin, would impose between man and his creator."
