I am very thankful to my mother...

I am very thankful to my mother for insisting that attendance at Sunday School should always come before the many other attractions that try to keep young people from attending it. As we grew up, my brother and I were protected from the mesmeric suggestion that smoking and social drinking are necessary for pleasure or popularity. Now that I am married with a family of my own, I am having ample opportunity to prove all the truths I learned during the seventeen years I attended a Christian Science Sunday School.

Christian Science does heal whenever it is honestly applied. Within hours, I have been freed from the effects of food poisoning, from a severe case of influenza, and from toothache.

Once, while I was helping to beach a boat, a carelessly thrown screwdriver punctured the instep of my bare foot. In Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 424), "Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, and we must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God's unerring direction and thus bring out harmony."The first five words of this sentence came to me at once, and I clung to them and silently denied the frightening possibilities being foretold by members of the party who were not Scientists. I covered the foot with a sock, and no further mention was made of it that afternoon.
