Because I had a heart condition...

Because I had a heart condition at birth, my parents tried to take all precautions to protect me from the so-called childhood diseases, but I still had most of them. When I was four years old my mother heard that people were healed through Christian Science; so she called a practitioner to pray for me because I suffered from constipation. After the healing took place, my mother, not knowing that Christian Science was a religion, did not investigate it any further. Two years later, I was severely ill, and again my mother asked for the help of a practitioner. This time absent treatment was given, and I had a fine healing.

It was not until several years later, however, that being discouraged by discord in the church to which we belonged, my parents sought a church where we could find harmony. After attending many churches of different denominations, they finally found what they had been seeking in the peaceful atmosphere of a Christian Science church, and I was enrolled in the Sunday School.

During my grade school days, I had regularly lost two weeks from school every winter because of tonsillitis. After our family began the study of Christian Science, the attacks of tonsillitis ceased without any specific metaphysical work being done.
