DANIEL

There was no guile in him. No cruel decree
Of a misguided king
Could force him to a sham conformity.

Thus windows opened wide
Upon his humble form, praising his God.
He saw no need to hide
His prayerful reverence, nor was he driven
By fear to bow to false authority
That claimed to vie with heaven.

No ravening thrusts of hate,
Malice, or wickedness could penetrate
The panoply of Love that covered him.
His innocence was proved his sure defense:
Lion became as lamb in his pure sense.
