At a meeting in 1879, on motion of Mary Baker Eddy, it was voted, "To organize a church designed to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing" (Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy, p. 17). One of the early workers commented, "To rise to the demands of this early pronouncement is the work of true Christian Scientists" (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany by Mrs. Eddy, p. 46). Membership in The Mother Church links one with those in all parts of the world who are engaged in this great work.
Applicants who are ready for membership in The Mother Church in accordance with the Church Manual requirements are admitted twice each year.
The closing date for the receipt of applications for the next admission of members is May 1, 1961.
