Signs of the Times

The Reverend David H. C. Read, D.D. in The Art of Living published by the National Council of Churches of Christ New York, New York

The God of the Bible, the God and Father of Jesus Christ, is not a local deity bounded by this earth, nor is he a kind of superman located at some point in outer space.... Our God is everywhere and all created things are his work....

Then, our relationship to this God is not disturbed by the revelation of the immensities of the universe. For size is not the most significant thing in the world. The mind that has penetrated into these vastnesses is still more wonderful than the atoms and the stars. And the kind of life we live is still more important than the environment we live in. To believe that God is love and that he wants us to be loving is just as relevant in the new age as in the old. If we get to the moon the real question will still be: what do we do there, and what kind of people will we be?
