Demonstrating What We Know
[Of Special Interest to Children]
Doris had attended the Christian Science Sunday School only a short time when she learned what the word "demonstration" means. Her teacher explained that "demonstration" means the act of showing forth or of proving what is true. We demonstrate that five and five are ten when we can count the five fingers on both hands and prove that we have ten fingers. So the truths we know of God and man, if they are to bless us, must be demonstrated.
Doris was happy to be told that the simple truths she was learning in the Sunday School are the same as those used by Christ Jesus. Christian Science is the Science of his teachings. One of these truths is found in a rule he gave to his disciples, "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect" (Matt. 5:48).
In Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy states this same rule of perfection in different words where she says (p. 428), "The great spiritual fact must be brought out that man is, not shall be, perfect and immortal."
