WORDS OF CURRENT INTEREST

[The words in this issue are related to the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly designated to be read in Christian Science churches on March 26, 1961.]

Light is sown (Ps. 97:11)

This is a literal rendering of the Hebrew text as it now stands; but from the evidence of the Septuagint, the Syriac, and other early versions, it is possible that at an early period a copyist wrote down zarua' (is sown) instead of an assumed form zarach, which means "appears" or "rises" and which is often used with reference to the rising of the sun. Hence one might translate "light dawns."

Candace (Acts 8:27)
