So much good has come to me from the study of Christian Science that I feel it is time to express my gratitude in our periodicals. My first healing was that of a severe cold, it came about as a result of my reading the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.

This healing took place in the fall of 1943 in much less than a week after I had started to read the textbook. The book had been offered to me by a new friend after I had suffered a few weeks with the cold and a severe cough. I was having regular treatments by a doctor, but the condition was becoming more severe.

I had been favorably impressed by my friend's religion because I knew that in studying the Lesson-Sermon from the Quarterly she read the Bible and Science and Health every day. Though I had prejudices against Christian Science, they fell away as I studied. I had to admit that a religion that encouraged its adherents to study the Bible every day had some good in it.

A few weeks later I was healed of a condition of fatigue and weakness, from which I had been suffering and for which I had been treated by doctors without receiving any relief, I studied the Lesson-Sermon and gained much freedom. Then I quit studying it, and the condition became aggravated. So I asked for the help of a Christian Science practitioner.

As I sat in the practitioner's office I was much impressed by the love she expressed. She told me I should study the Lesson-Sermon every day; and after giving me a treatment, she asked that I read pages 217 to 219 in Science and Health when I arrived home. This I did.

The next day I went to work, though still so tired and weak that it was doubtful whether I could stay on duty; but during that eight-hour work period, I discovered I had much joy and boundless energy, and I was completely rested. This healing has been permanent.

In the ensuing years, there have been continuing proofs of God's love and care in guidance and supply and in physical healings, some of which have come about through my own work, and others with the help of practitioners, for whom I am grateful.

A healing of several months ago was that of a strained shoulder. It was painful one day, and after retiring that night I could not lie still for more than a few minutes at a time. For several hours I tried to realize the truths in "the scientific statement of being" on page 468 of Science and Health. One of these truths is, "Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal." Another statement in this textbook which came to me is on page 414, "Keep in mind the verity of being, —that man is the image and likeness of God, in whom all being is painless and permanent."

About three o'clock in the morning I could not remain in bed because of the pain. Even so, I felt much had been gained spiritually. I then studied the Lesson-Sermon carefully. Some time later I lay down again completely free. I slept for about two hours and arose for the day refreshed and well.

This healing, as well as many others, has been cause for deep gratitude to God for Christian Science and its Discoverer and Founder, Mrs. Eddy. I am very grateful for the nurses training course I took at the Christian Science Benevolent Association on Pacific Coast and for my interesting work as a Christian Science nurse since that training.
